Snow Machine Trails In Big Lake

Last week, the Big Lake Winter Fest and the start of the Iron Dog combined to produce a record number of trail users on Big Lake area trails. Big Lake Trails, Inc. was a proud supporter and sponsor of both and is very pleased to have been a witness to the success of both events. Go Iron Dog!

Needless to say, huge crowds and high speeds took their toll on the trails. The Iron Dog Trail, the Connector Trail, Trail 5 to 1 and portions of Trail 4 have already been reclaimed. With temps in the mid 20s and about 3″ of new snow, Big Lake provides you with the best opportunity to take a quick, hassle free ride. Take your time though, have more fun by making it a weekend. We look forward to meeting you on the trails.

Willow Trail Report For 2/23/12

Well its just another great week in Willow!!!!

With warm weather again over last weekend things got Bumped Up!

You are making us work out there! We’ve got to get out the Big drags this week and log in about 400 fleet miles. With a few temporary stops along the way.

The whole SVWT in Willow area was done this week along with most of the other trails getting 4 to 8 passes with our big groomers. Temps were in the upper 20s during the days. There’s 4 inches of new snow on a 3ft. base.

It’s going to be a little cooler in the next day or so. We’ve seen a little overflow on some of the lakes.

Watch out for the Junior Iditarod this Sunday using a bunch of our trails.

With spring like weather out here you need to ride!

We Are Taking the Bumps So You Don’t have Too!!!!

Hit The Trails In The Willow Area

Here’s the latest trail report from THE TRAIL BOSS (Bill Luth) of the Willow Trail Committee….It’s a great time to ride!Temperatures are nice, the powder’s deep, trails are freshly groomed to the swamps which are full of untouched areas. If that’s not your style you can hit the river system. There’s plenty of good riding to be found.

The SVWT (Su Valley Winter Trail) is now complete. You can now ride from Big Lake to Denali State Park on a marked and groomed trail. For those of you that might want to get out and explore and get in some miles, here’s your chance.

The snow stayed dry here this week. No rain fell like so many places in South Central Alaska!
The riding is the best in years!

Good Snow In Willow!

It’s a great week in Willow!!!!
So after the warm snow and temps last weekend and the snowstorm on Wed. We are looking real good here in Willow. Temps are 19 this morning with 30 + inches of snow.
We groomed 285 fleet miles this week. With Tues. and Weds. being great days to groom. So all trails are in great shape.
Note: Big Swamp to Big Lake & Iron Dog trail could not be groomed due to light overflow in the swamp. Found light overflow on lakes, creeks and in swamps. Most of the time just about 1 inch of water or less. This is now a great time to play in the swamps around here because they have a good base with a lot of good snow on top.
Free day parking at the Community Center. And Maps at Eagle River Polaris Arctic Cat and Townsite Grocery here in Willow.

Big Lake Trail Report

Play your stress away. Ride your sled at Big Lake! Big Lake offers great trail opportunities for all levels of riding. Trails 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are in good shape and freshly groomed. There is snow in abundance.

No grooming has been done west of the Little Su at the Iron Dog as it is barely frozen with a little open water. More cold weather is needed to better develop the ice bridge at this location. Temps are ranging from 14 – 24 degrees.

While on the trails this weekend, watch for Boy Scout Troop 210 as they assist us in upgrading signage on the trails Saturday and Sunday. Approximately 20 of these young men will be on the trails as an Eagle Scout project. New signage will include more frequent trail markers, additional directional signage and new area maps. Please provide these boys with an enthusiastic THANK YOU!
